A boil-water advisory is expected to remain in effect until Tuesday morning for areas of western Athens-Clarke County affected by last week’s break in a 24-inch water main at the Athens Perimeter interchange with Prince Avenue.
The Thursday break was repaired late Friday, and water quality tests have revealed no problems with the water, but the boil-water advisory remains in effect, according to an Athens-Clarke County news release. Those in the affected area should continue to boil water before consumption, even if the water is clear and water pressure returns to normal, according to the news release.
The area affected by the boil-water advisory is bounded by Jefferson Road, Hawthorne Avenue, Atlanta Highway and Epps Bridge Parkway to the east and the Oconee County and Jackson County lines to the west. It also includes Bogart residents who are Athens-Clarke County Public Utilities customers, according to the release.
Also according to the news release, discolored or brown water that may appear in residences and businesses outside of the boil-water advisory area is safe to use and consume, although it is advised not to use brown water to wash white clothes. Running water for a several minutes should clear the water’s appearance.
