Three area athletes — Athens Academy’s Anna Marian Block and East Jackson’s Chase Kennedy and Sue Ann Morales — won state cross country titles in Carrollton Saturday.
Jackson’s Chase Kennedy and Chandler Kennedy finished first and second at the Class AAA meet for the second consecutive year.
Chase Kennedy won his second straight boys title in 17 minutes, 7.73 seconds. Twin brother Chandler crossed the finish line in 17 minutes, 21.70 seconds.
Oconee County’s Michael Hans finished fifth (17:55.15) in Class AAA. Jefferson’s Addison Cochran (18:04.88) finished ninth. Oconee County finished with 88 points and took second as a team behind Blessed Trinity (49). East Jackson took fourth (125) and Jefferson finished fifth (176). Jackson County finished 12th with 366 points.
Morales won the Class AAA girls race in 19 minutes, 51.03 seconds. Jackson County was seventh (289), Oconee County took eighth (313) and Jefferson rounded out the top 10 with 340 points.
Athens Academy’s Anna Marian Block won the Class A Private girls race in 19 minutes, 9.07 seconds. Emily Elder and Emily Ballard-Myer finished 11th and 13th. The Spartans finished second as a team with 85 points behind Landmark Christian (40). Athens Christian finished ninth.
Athens Academy’s Ryan Iyer (seventh, 18:26.29) and Alex Branch (eighth, 18:31.06) helped Spartans’ boys team to a fourth place finish. Athens Christian finished 13th.
North Oconee’s Mackenzie Morse took eighth (21:43.25) in the Class AAAA girls race. The Titans picked up 160 points and took third as a team.
North Oconee’s Thomas Moore finished 12th (17:47.77) in the Class AAAA boys race. The Titans recorded 179 points and finished fifth as a team.
Winder-Barrow’s Kacie Wilson took fourth (20:36.49) in the Class AAAAA girls race and paced Bulldoggs to a 12th place finish as a team. Clarke Central finished 22nd.
Cedar Shoals’ Jeryck Wilson finished seventh (17:39.70) in the Class AAAAA boys race. Winder-Barrow finished 20th as a team
In Class AA, the Oglethorpe County boys finished 17th.
