Thieves were busy along Georgia Highway 15 in southern Oconee County recently as two property owners reported the theft of approximately $30,000 worth of motorized equipment.

The two homes were within a half mile of each other on the 6000 block of the highway near Greene County and both thefts were discovered Monday morning, according to Oconee County Sheriff’s reports.

There are obvious similarities in the crimes and it’s reasonable the thefts were committed by the same persons, but there is no hard evidence yet to link the crimes, Oconee Chief Deputy Lee Weems said Wednesday.

One man reported the theft of a red and black 2015 Polaris Ranger valued at $9,270, according to the reports.

The other resident reported that between Sunday and early Monday, someone stole a Bobcat mower and a Polaris Ranger ATV, all valued at $20,800.

In an apparently unrelated case, thieves entered some property off Cooper Gin Road in the northwestern part of the county and stole a Toro riding mower valued at $8,000, along with a Honda generator, and a thermal-imaging camera, both valued at more than $10,000.
