Jefferson, Jackson County, Commerce advance to state wrestling finals

Jefferson and Jackson County will meet in the Class 3A state duals finals in Macon Saturday. All finals will start at 3 p.m.

Jefferson, which has won 14 consecutive state duals titles, bested Lumpkin County 53-15 in the semifinals Friday afternoon. They routed Central, Carrollton (66-12) and McNair (72-8) in the earlier rounds of the tournament.

Jackson County defeated Ringgold 45-22 in the semifinals. They opened the tournament with a 79-0 shutout of Glenn Hills and a 41-24 win over Rockmart.

Two-time defending state champion Commerce snagged a spot in the Class A finals after posting a 69-6 win over Trion in the semifinals. They topped Turner County 60-10 in the first round. The Tigers will wrestle Mt. Zion.

Clarke Central fell 58-12 to defending state champion Camden County in the Class 5A semifinals. It was the first dual loss of the season for Clarke Central, which topped Grovetown 62-9 and edged Cass 29-28 to reach the semis. Clarke Central will wrestle the South Paulding-Union Grove winner in the consolation bracket at 11 a.m. Saturday. A win would land them in the third-place dual at 1 p.m.
