A man reportedly has died from injuries he suffered when his car crashed early Tuesday outside the main entrance of the Caterpillar plant in western Athens-Clarke County.
The accident, which occurred at about 3 a.m., is being investigated by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, which did not immediately release the victim's identity.
The 30-year-old victim was driving west on Orkin Drive near the Dozer Drive intersection when the vehicle crossed the median and eastbound lanes of traffic, according to police.
The vehicle left the roadway and sideswiped a small tree before striking a large tree head on, police said.
The victim was transported to Athens Regional Medical Center where he later died.
