The Jackson County Historic Courthouse Restoration Committee and the Jefferson Historic Preservation Committee are hosting a talk on Thursday by Richard “Dickey” Hoard, the son of Floyd Hoard who was murdered in August 1967 at his Jackson County home.

Hoard, a native of Jefferson, wrote the book “Alone Among the Living” that chronicles the slaying of his father, who was the Piedmont Judicial Circuit Solicitor. Bootleggers wired his car with dynamite. The murder brought about key changes in the Piedmont Judicial Circuit.

Hoard’s presentation is 7 p.m. on the first floor of the Historic Jackson County Courthouse in downtown Jefferson. Tickets are $20 each and seating is limited. A reception follows the talk.

For information on tickets call (706) 387-7685. Proceeds go toward restoration of the second floor of the courthouse.
