There’s been no official announcement yet, but Georgia’s opponent for the Big 12/SEC Challenge will reportedly be a marquee one.
Texas will visit Athens when the leagues tangle again this coming season in nonconference matchups, according to a tweet from Jon Rothstein of CBSSports.com who cited sources.
The Longhorns will be in their second season under Shaka Smart and are coming off a 20-13 campaign that ended with an opening round NCAA tournament loss to Northern Iowa. Georgia has had three straight seasons of at least 20 wins under Mark Fox and played in the NIT last season.
Georgia and Texas haven’t played since a season opening game on Nov. 15, 2002 when the Longhorns beat the Bulldogs 77-71 in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic in New York. Georgia leads the all-time series 6-5.
Other Big 12/SEC matchups, according to Rothstein: Kansas at Kentucky, Baylor at Ole Miss, Texas A&M at West Virginia, Iowa State at Vanderbilt, Kansas State at Tennessee, Florida at Oklahoma, Auburn at TCU, Arkansas at Oklahoma State and LSU at Texas Tech. No dates were revealed.
Georgia's nonconference home schedule next season includes a game against Marquette on Dec. 4, according to a contract signed earlier this month.
