Jordan Jenkins’ mindset Saturday for Georgia's game against Vanderbilt turned out to be close to the results he got on the field.
“In my head, I was sitting there saying, `You can’t block me. You can’t block me,'” the senior said. “’I’m about to mess you up.’ I’ve just got to carry that mentality the rest of the season.”
Jenkins was named Monday as SEC defensive lineman of the week. He’s listed as an outside linebacker for Georgia but the league noted he was “lining up with his hand on the ground,” when he rang up a career-high 11 tackles including two sacks and 5 ½ tackles for loss.
“He played great, he played hard,” coach Mark Richt said Sunday. “He played with emotion and passion. He did line up incorrectly at times, had a couple of mental errors as far as where to line up once or twice, but not very many issues in that regard. He played a ton of snaps and was highly productive and the tape showed it.”
Bulldogs sophomore Isaiah McKenzie was named the SEC special teams player of the week after his third career punt return for touchdown, a 77-yarder. That was the longest punt return touchdown for Georgia since Brandon Boykin went 92 yards in the 2012 Outback Bowl against Michigan State.
McKenzie also had a 24-yard carry and a 15-yard reception.
