The Georgia State Patrol has identified the driver of a vehicle killed in a fiery crash during a Sept. 14 chase in Oconee County as a Winder man.
The patrol said Stephen Edward Crimmins, 24, was driving the Jeep Patriot that rammed the side of a tractor-trailer truck killing him and his passenger Jessica Katherine Cannon, 20, of Braselton.
The crash occurred shortly before 10 p.m. soon after an Oconee County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle coming out of a subdivision under construction along McNutt Creek Road, authorities said.
The Jeep turned off its headlights and fled in the direction of Georgia Highway 316 where it went through a stop sign and hit the truck, according to the report.
The Jeep was dragged down the highway and soon after the truck stopped, the rig, hauling rolled paper, became engulfed in flames, the patrol said.
The remains of the two people were taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab where they were positively identified using dental records, the patrol said.
